The most satisfying thing I have ever done is take care of my wife in the last months of her life. I do Systems Engineering for Space Development and Test Wing at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. I've been doing that since December 2008. I take care of data networks for scientists that launch rockets. I retired from the Navy Reserve in 2006. I knew it was time to retire because while I was in Iraq, a young soldier compared me to his grandfather. While I was in Afghanistan, I got to go mountain climbing with the Marines. I wasn't first to the mountain top, though I did get to the top with the Sargent Major and the Marines'commanding officer. Those two are my age. One morning in Iraq, I had just finished getting dressed after my morning shower. I walked outside and I felt the air wash of what I thought was a low flying helicopter flying very fast. It was a Katusa rocket that missed my head by about one foot. I'm lucky to be alive. I had been stuck in Qatar for three days waiting for a plane to Afghanistan, and I was very tired. I finally got a C-130, and after boarding, I promptly went to sleep. The next thing I knew, we were in a steep dive over Afghanistan launching flares because someone had shot a shoulder launched weapon at us. I'm glad I had my seat belts and shoulder harness on or I would have been on the floor. In summary: Systems/Networks Engineer - (2002 - present); US Navy Reserve - Retired 2006 after 28 years; US Army Contractor, Southwest Asia 2004 - 2008; MIS Degree 2007; Vendor certifications: Cisco, Microscoft, PMI, Comp/TIA; Adjunct Professor Computer Science - NMSU. Since I'm now a widower, I guess I'm single now. I've not thought about that unitl now. My wife dided 4/29/09. I miss her alot. People tell me I have to move on. They're right. I do have to move on. Just as our resident clairvoyant at CHS, Mrs. Jane Hudson, once predicted, "Brian, I can see you on a long journey with your father...." Well, she was right. I continued in the construction business with my father for his entire life (he died in 1996) and for my entire life so far. Funny...Mrs. Traylor could predict waht I was going to make on my Lit. test before I even took it, but she never spoke of her clairvoyance!
